In general, architecture can be defined as a way to build a building solidly. As part of art, architecture is the art and science of building design that includes designing the entire environment, starting from the macro level, namely urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture, to the micro level, such as furniture and product design.

In Indonesia, the face of architecture has a long character and story, and it’s no wonder that many people are interested in studying this field, from traditional to modern architecture. One of the highlights of the journey of Indonesian architecture is the existence of traditional houses, which referred to as vernacular architecture. This architectural form can be seen in the typical Padang Gadang House, Javanese Joglo House and Papuan Honai House.

Indonesian architecture continues to experience changes with the inclusion of Hindu-Buddhist influences which lead to acculturation with local culture. In addition, the era of Dutch colonialization also had its own influence on the development of architecture and design in Indonesia.
